Chocolate
Chocolate is one of the most beloved sweets in the world and its history dates back more than 2,000 years to the civilization of the ancient Maya. Initially, chocolate was used as a drink, called ‘’chocolatl’’. This beverage, to which various spices were added, was consumed hot and was believed to be invigorating, fortifying, and the best medicine of that time, capable of curing any illness.
Europeans discovered chocolate during the 16th century. Initially, chocolate was not widely accepted by Europeans due to its bitter taste. However, with the addition of sugar and flavors, chocolate became popular in Europe during the 17th century.
During World War II, chocolate was a necessary food for soldiers and chocolate production forces tried to maintain their production capabilities despite the shortage of raw materials and labor force.
In the last 200 years, chocolate has become one of the most popular sweets in the world. Today, there are various types of chocolate, such as dark, milk, white, and even pink!
